South Carolina Autism Insurance Bill Passes
The South Carolina House and Senate overrode Gov. Mark Sanford's 11th hour veto of a bill requiring health insurance coverage for individuals with autism spectrum disorder. The initiative will require insurance companies in the state to provide medical coverage for persons who are diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder by age eight, with continuing coverage through sixteen years of age for treatments prescribed by a medical doctor. Included is coverage for behavioral therapy up to $50,000 a year. Read more.
Case Against Vaccines Goes to U.S. Court of Federal Claims
On Monday, June 11, the U.S. Court of Federal Claims will hear the first test case from among more than 4,800 claims filed against the federal government during the past six years alleging that children have contracted autism as a result of vaccines. To learn more, read here.


Truex Wins Autism Speaks 400 Presented by Visa
The Autism Speaks 400 Presented by Visa was won on Monday, June 4, by Martin Truex, Jr. The race, scheduled to run Sunday, June 3, at the Dover International Speedway, was postponed due to torrential rains and wind. HBO Purchases Autism: The Musical
HBO has acquired the documentary film "Autism: The Musical", directed by Tricia Regan, and plans a limited theatrical release of the film before it premieres on the cable network next year.
