Support Autism Awareness at T.J. Maxx
Customers at 800 TJ Maxx stores nationwide will be invited to purchase an Autism Speaks puzzle piece at checkout for a donation of $1. This is the fourth year the retailer has been actively involved in autism awareness, having raised over $2.2 million since 2004. No purchase is necessary to make a donation and all proceeds will benefit Autism Speaks. The program will run through April 28th. Regal Cinemas Running PSAs On Screens Nationwide
Regal Cinemas will run a thirty-second Autism Speaks public service ad, produced by the Ad Council, before every film shown on its 6,386 screens from April 6-12, during Autism Awareness Month. Read more.
Lack of Early Name Response May Be Sign of Autism
A new study, published in the April issue of the Archives of Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine, suggests that the failure of a child to respond to his or her name at the age of 12 months may be an early warning sign for autism. Advance Autism Research; Register for the IAN Project
The Kennedy Krieger Institute launched the Interactive Autism Network (IAN) – the first national online autism registry – at www.IANproject.org. IAN, which is funded by a grant from Autism Speaks, will facilitate the exploration of causes, treatments and the search for a possible cure to this puzzling disorder. Ask Your Senators to Support Funding for the CAA
The Combating Autism Act, or CAA, was enacted in December 2006. Now we need to secure funding so that it can be fully implemented. Senators Christopher Dodd and Chuck Hagel have asked their fellow Senators to sign a letter in support of funding for the full implementation of the Combating Autism Act. Click here to ask your Senators to sign on to the Dodd-Hagel letter. We especially need Republican signers! If your Senator is a Republican, please take a moment and contact them to ensure the CAA is fully funded!
Autism Speaks on The Oprah Winfrey Show
On Thursday, April 5, The Oprah Winfrey Show devoted a full hour to autism, entitled "The Faces of Autism." Portions of Autism Speaks' documentary, Autism Every Day, were aired throughout the program, and several of the parents featured in the film participated in the show. Read more.
