Autism Speaks joined with Senators Hillary Rodham Clinton and Wayne Allard as they announced the introduction of the Expanding the Promise for Individuals with Autism Act of 2007, landmark legislation that would dramatically expand federal funding for life-long services for people with autism. Nearly 240 staff and volunteers of the newly merged Autism Speaks and Cure Autism Now met in Washington, D.C. for a national leadership conference. Autism Speaks Co-founder Suzanne Wright appeared this week on CNN's "Larry King Live" to discuss autism. The show will air again on Sun., March 25 at 9 p.m. EDT. Wright appeared along with Bill Cosby and Toni Braxton, the stars of the upcoming Concert for Autism Speaks on April 9 at Jazz at Lincoln Center in New York City. Read more.

Autism Speaks and Build-A-Bear Workshop, for the third consecutive year, are partnering to raise awareness and funds during Autism Awareness Month. Throughout April, we encourage you to visit Build-A-Bear Workshop at any of their 200+ stores in the United States and Canada to purchase a purple satin heart. During the month of April, your $1 donation for the purchase of a purple satin heart will distributed through the Build-A-Bear Workshop Foundation to Autism Speaks. Start a Student Club for Autism Speaks |
|
|
In 2005, two student clubs (Students Together for Autism Research: S.T.A.R. and the Autism Speaks Club) formed with similar goals - to educate their respective communities by raising awareness about autism and funds for autism research. The achievements of these two clubs inspired what are now known as Student Clubs for Autism Speaks, or SCAS, scholastic clubs specifically geared to the abilities and interests of both middle school and high school students. Mom Raises Money Via Six Degrees Site
|
|
|
Ali Edwards, the mother of a child with autism, set up a fundraising badge for Autism Speaks via the charitable web site sixdegrees.org, founded by the actor Kevin Bacon. She featured the badge on her personal web site and has received enough donations that she could win a contest sponsored by sixdegrees.org that would provide a $10,000 matching grant to Autism Speaks.
